Interference of third countries was recorded in the parliamentary elections held in Georgia, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said on the Georgian Imedi TV channel.
"Unprecedented outside interference, including foreign money, was recorded in these elections," TASS quoted him as saying.
At the same time, according to the prime Minister, Georgia will be able to "reset" its relations with the West in early 2025. He specified that this should happen in the first quarter of next year.
Elections to the Parliament of Georgia were held on October 26. According to the CEC, the ruling Georgian Dream won the elections, gaining 53.92% of the vote. The opposition, which did not recognize the election results, accuses this party of having changed course from European integration to rapprochement with Russia. Moscow stated that they have neither the "right" nor the "desire" to interfere "in the internal affairs of Georgia."
The European Union suspended the process of Georgia's admission this summer. The reason for this decision was the adoption of the law on foreign agents in the country. After that, the country's president Salome Zurabishvili, who does not belong to the ruling party and also did not recognize the election results, announced plans to run for a second term in order to "return Georgia to the European path," RBC reminds.
