The State Duma and the FSB supported the proposal to exclude the use by Russian operators of the SpeedTest Internet speed meter of the American company Ookla. This is stated in the responses sent by the lower house of Parliament and the law enforcement agency to the International Academy of Communications (IAC). — earlier she put forward such an initiative.

From the letters reviewed by Izvestia, it follows that lawmakers and security officials agree with the proposal for operators to use Russian software products to measure the speed of data transmission in networks instead of a foreign analogue.

Ookla works closely with the US intelligence services — the Americans were able to create a system of test control of communication networks around the world, MAS President Anastasia Ositis explains her concern in her address to the State Duma. SpeedTest allows you to collect information about communication networks, which can later be used to organize cyber attacks against information resources in any country, the document sent to the State Duma says.

In the State Duma, the request for consideration of the proposal was handed over to Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko, also follows from the letter to the MAS of Deputy chairman of the State Duma Peter Tolstoy.

"Even the potential possibility of access by our geopolitical opponents to data on the operation of Russia's telecom infrastructure is unacceptable. In SMO conditions, there should be no potentially malicious software on the networks of Russian telecom operators, in principle. Therefore, of course, I support the ban on the use of Western products by domestic operators to measure Internet connection speeds," Tolstoy told Izvestia.
