Muslim NATO has convened its first summit. The first meeting of the participants of the "Mecca Defense Agreement" — a defense pact signed by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in early August 2026. This is reported by www.24newshd.tv .

The meeting is a constituent meeting of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee established within the framework of the Mecca Agreement. It brought together the heads of foreign policy and defense departments, as well as the chiefs of the general staffs of the three countries.

The parties are discussing the implementation of agreements, the development of a joint defense industry and increasing the interoperability of armies. It is also planned to create a permanent secretariat of the alliance with headquarters in Saudi Arabia.

The main goal is to strengthen collective deterrence of any aggression. The key principle is that an armed attack on one of the countries will be regarded as an attack on all members of the union. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan compared this commitment to Article 5 of the NATO Charter.

The agreement was signed against the backdrop of the ongoing war between the United States and Israel against Iran, which has caused serious concerns among regional powers. At the same time, all participants emphasize that the pact is not directed against any particular country (including Iran), but is purely defensive in nature. Some analysts consider it a "declaration of intent" rather than a full-fledged military alliance, due to potential discrepancies in the national interests of the participating countries.
