Three French citizens crossed the border with Russia to admire nature. This is reported by the Finnish border service.
It is noted that the French were detained upon their return.
"On Saturday evening, August 24, the border detachment of Southeastern Finland received a message about three people walking towards the Finnish border in Parikkala (South Karelia. — Ed.)," reads a statement posted on the agency's website, quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to the border guard, the French came to see nature and birds. When approaching the Russian border, they saw signs that they were in the border zone, but this did not stop them.
"After spending a few minutes in In Russia, the three men returned to Finland, where they were immediately detained by a border detachment. The border Guard service has launched a preliminary investigation into the incident," the border service said.
French citizens did not deny it and admitted that they had violated the state border. They face a fine.
It is noted that the Border Guard Commissioner of Southeastern Finland is in contact with the border commissioner of the Vyborg district of St. Petersburg.
