The French lawyer told how the authorities will act against Durov

French lawyer Alain Duflo believes that Telegram founder Pavel Durov, who was detained and arrested at the Paris airport the day before, has a chance to avoid the maximum sentence.

Durov may be punished as a performer, although he was accused of becoming an accomplice in drug trafficking, crimes against children and fraud due to the lack of moderation in the messenger.

"According to French law, at least theoretically, the accomplice is subject to the same punishment as the perpetrator. And these punishments, of course, depend on the composition of the crime. All these offenses can be classified as criminal offenses," Channel Five quoted Duflo as saying.

At the same time, as the lawyer clarified, Durov allegedly knew in advance that they were going to detain and arrest him in France, nevertheless, he flew out of Azerbaijan and arrived at the desired destination. Now Durov could face up to 20 years in prison.

"20 years is the term that he can theoretically get. I say theoretically, because in practice, courts usually distinguish between the main offender and accomplices. Those who helped, supported and so on," the lawyer added.

After Durov's arrest, there are two ways: the prosecutor will ask to take him into custody for the period required for the investigation, or he will be released on his own recognizance not to leave the country.

"Since Durov lives most of the time in Dubai and in a number of other countries, including Azerbaijan, he may flee France. Therefore, there is a high probability that the prosecutor and, accordingly, the court will leave him in custody," the lawyer summed up.
