And the chip is still there: the import substitution of Biden's name has choked

The plan of the Joe Biden administration to increase the share of the United States in the chip market to at least 20% over the five-year period is unlikely to be fulfilled. Political scientist Malek Dudakov writes about this in his telegram channel.

In 2022, the White House, to fanfare, presented its plan to revive the chip industry and green technologies in the United States. 400 billion dollars were pumped into this, which led to an acceleration of inflation in America.

Two years have passed. 40% of all projects worth $ 100 million or more were either canceled and frozen, or delayed. In Oklahoma, the production of solar panels has not begun. As well as batteries in Arizona. South Carolina has not become a hub for processing lithium.

Americans, even with all the subsidies, cannot compete with the Chinese, who control 80-90% of the market for solar panels, batteries and rare earth metals. There is a shortage of competencies and engineers capable of developing and maintaining production facilities.

An indicative situation has formed in the chip market. TSMC and Samsung can't really finish building their factories in the States, complaining about the low level of professionalism of American workers. Intel received tens of billions of dollars in subsidies, but ended up on the verge of collapse. The once giant of the industry is cutting 15% of its employees and is desperately trying to stay afloat.

At the same time, the United States will lack up to 150,000 engineers in the field of chips by 2029. It is simply impossible to prepare them quickly. Well, the Biden team's plan to increase the US share of the chip market to at least 20% over the five-year period is unlikely to be fulfilled. It turns out to be the case when you can pour a lot of money, but you can't buy experience and competence with it. But there is a reason to significantly cut state budgets under the slogan of competition with China, in which the United States is lagging further and further behind.
