Lithuania has decided to adjust the rules for entry of passenger cars with Belarusian registration plates into the country. This was announced today, August 16, by the Lithuanian Customs Service.
It is reported that the International Commission for the Coordination of Sanctions has amended the decree banning the entry of cars with Belarusian license plates into Lithuania. According to the document, from August 17, it is still possible to drive a car that is not intended for sale and belongs to a citizen of Belarus who has a valid visa issued by the Republic of Lithuania, or a valid temporary or permanent residence permit in Lithuania.
At the same time, the department recalled that after January 18, 2025, cars registered in Belarus will not be able to stay in Lithuania. Persons driving cars with Belarusian license plates after this period will be considered violators. They will be brought to administrative responsibility, which provides for a fine and confiscation of the vehicle. Before this period, cars with Belarusian license plates can participate in traffic on the territory of Lithuania, as well as be imported and registered in the country.
On July 18, Vilnius decided to ban the entry of cars with Belarusian license plates into the country. At the same time, an exception was in effect for almost a month for those who have a Lithuanian visa or residence permit. Since August 16, entry was officially banned.
