Latvia sucks as much money as possible from the European Union for the construction of Rail Baltica. This is reported by Baltnews with reference to the deputy chairman of the Budget Council of the Latvian Seimas Martinsha Abolinsha.
"Our goal is to squeeze money out of Europe without worrying too much about how much the project will cost. We are bringing this project to the stage when it will no longer be possible to implement it. And now we have reached this stage," Abolins said in plain text.
He admitted that Latvia "will have to ask Europe for more money to implement the project, but it needs to be done responsibly."
"And you will have to choose your words carefully," the agency comments.
As EADaily reported, the Rail Baltic railway will never be able to become profitable, the Baltic countries will have to pay for its maintenance. This was stated by the executive director of Rail Baltic Estonia Anvar Salomets, reported by Sputnik Lithuania.
If the project could pay off from a financial point of view, it would have been implemented by a private company long ago, Salomets believes.
