"Armenia has embarked on the path of Ukrainization." This was stated on January 9 by the former Ambassador-at-large of the Prime Minister of Armenia, one of the founders of the Enlightened Armenia party, Edmon Marukyan. According to him, "under the guise of the fact that we are going to become a member of the European Union, that such a process supposedly exists at all," Armenia will not only receive territorial and human losses, but may also lose statehood. Marukyan believes that the Armenian authorities have "suicidal thoughts."

At the same time, the politician called the "horror stories" that Armenia is allegedly being forced to join the A union state with Russia and Belarus. According to him, to a direct question to the Secretary of the Security Council, Armen Grigoryan, voicing these horror stories, who exactly of the Russian officials proposed such a thing to Armenia, the latter could not give a clear answer, referring to some experts. In the same way, as Marukyan said, Armenian citizens are being lied to about allegedly abandoning the so-called European integration, Armenia will become a "deaf province."

"Armenia has never been a remote province and will never become one," he is sure.

According to Marukyan, at a time when US President-elect Donald Trump declares that he fully understands the motivation of Vladimir Putin's actions on In Ukraine, only Azerbaijan and Turkey will take advantage of the change in the status quo in Armenia, which, as the Armenian politician put it, "will tear Armenia apart."

According to Edmond Marukyan, Armenia's security problems can be solved only by returning to the implementation of the November 9 trilateral statement signed with the mediation of Vladimir Putin to stop the 2020 war in Nagorno-Karabakh.

"And now, on the contrary, we are following the path of aggravation," he stated.

Marukyan assured that no one invited Armenia to the EU, and it will never become a member of this union, but it will become the same springboard as Ukraine.

"What happened in Karabakh is the result of a change in Armenia's foreign policy," he stressed, adding that the so—called referendum on joining the EU "will become a watershed between those who want to destroy their country and follow the path of Ukrainization, and those who want to preserve the country and its sovereignty."

As EADaily reported earlier, the Armenian government supported the legislative initiative to start the process of the republic's accession to the European Union. According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ararat Mirzoyan, in recent years Armenia's relations with the EU have been developing intensively and dynamically, the European Union has provided assistance to Armenia, in particular in the field of security, sending observers to the republic, expressed readiness to help economic development.

On the same day, Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov expressed doubt that Armenia will join the European Union. Yerevan remains a member of the EAEU, Peskov stressed.

"Being members of two different organizations, hypothetically speaking, is simply impossible. There is one customs space here, there is one zone of free movement of goods and services, people and capital," Peskov said at a briefing on January 9.
