Suji has transit: $110 million worth of gas went to Europe after the seizure of GIS

The transit of Russian gas through Ukraine after the seizure of the Suja gas measuring station by the Ukrainian Armed Forces continues for the eighth day. Neither side gives official comments. During this time, almost 240 million cubic meters were delivered through Ukraine, the cost of which in European markets after the price increase is $ 110 million. Naftogaz of Ukraine will receive almost $ 14 million for transportation these days.

From August 6 to August 11, the transit of Russian gas through the Sudzha gas measuring station amounted to more than 236 million cubic meters. Such data is published by the GTS Operator of Ukraine. Sudzha remains the only route through which Gazprom transports gas through Ukraine to Europe.

After the capture of the gas measuring station by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the price of fuel on European stock exchanges rose rapidly — by more than $ 45 per thousand cubic meters. The morning of August 12, the TTF exchange started at $ 466. At this price, the cost of fuel supplied through Ukraine is $ 110 million. Obviously, Gazprom will receive less, since it exports under long-term contracts in which the cost is tied to stock quotes, but with a time lag.

In turn, Naftogaz of Ukraine, which acts as an intermediary in the transit contract, can count on $ 13.7 million for transit through Suju. Gazprom is obliged to pay the contracted 110 million cubic meters, regardless of actual deliveries. But since another point, "Sokhranovka", was closed in the spring of 2022 by the Ukrainian side, which Gazprom does not agree with, then payment is obviously made only for the volumes reserved for "Sudzha" (72 million cubic meters per day).

Neither side has commented on the situation with the transit of Russian gas. An anonymous adviser to Vladimir Zelensky only told The Washington Post that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had taken control of the Suja GIS, but Kiev would not use it as a lever of pressure, as it could block the transit that goes through its territory earlier.

Perhaps the Kiev regime expects actions from the Russian side in order to try once again to present Russia as an unreliable partner who puts Europe's energy security at risk. Experts noted to EADaily that Moscow was faced with a dilemma and much depends on the time frame for which the Russian army will be able to knock the Ukrainian Armed Forces out of the Kursk region. GIS "Suja" is located on the very border.

According to the Ukrainian GTS Operator, the nomination for the transit of Russian gas on August 12 is 39.55 million cubic meters. The main volumes, almost 36 million cubic meters, according to Eustream, will go to Slovaks and further — to the EU countries. The rest goes to Moldova. The data of the Slovak operator say that at 10.20 on the gas day on August 12 (from 6.00), 6 million cubic meters have already been supplied from Ukraine to the Velke Kapushany point.
