The foreigner tried to fly from Sheremetyevo airport to Yerevan with three suitcases with "strategically important goods" — jewelry made of 925 sterling silver. This was reported in the telegram channel of the Federal Customs Service of Russia.
"Sheremetyevo customs officers found almost 10.5 thousand silver jewelry worth 2 million rubles in the passenger's luggage. I tried to take them out to Yerevan is a 50-year—old foreigner," the ministry said in a statement.
It is indicated that inspectors using an X-ray machine found 273 packages with 10,474 pieces of jewelry in three suitcases of an air passenger. The examination found that all of them are made of 925 sterling silver. The man said that he planned to sell this product in Yerevan.
"A criminal case has been opened on the smuggling of strategically important goods under Part 1 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The citizen faces up to 5 years in prison or a fine of up to 1 million rubles," the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation noted.
