Russia has stopped the advance of Ukrainian troops in Kursk region. It is reported by The New York Times with reference to military analysts.

The data indicate that Moscow was able to slow down the advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Russian territory at the end of the week, Pasi Paroinen, a Finnish expert from the Black Bird Group, which analyzes satellite images and social media content from the battlefield, said in an interview.

"During the first three days, the fastest movement was observed. And yesterday, I think we started to see the consequences of the Russian response," the analyst said.

According to Peroinen, several Russian units are probably still holding out in the center of Sudzha, and the Ukrainians are trying to organize defense to the east. The Ukrainian Armed Forces faced stiff resistance when they tried several times to take control of Korenevo, a village located 40 km northwest of the city.

"It may have caused a lot of trouble for Ukrainians," the analyst said.

What all this means for Ukraine is still unclear, the newspaper notes. The decision of the Ukrainian troops to cross the border with Russia, apparently, surprised not only Moscow, but also the United States, as well as other Western partners and analysts who have been monitoring troop movements for days. Some suggest that Ukraine hopes to divert Russian troops from the front line to Ukraine, to give respite to the Ukrainian troops tired of fighting. However, analysts say that this did not happen. The Russian Armed Forces continue their offensive on the front line, the newspaper notes.
