Former Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi on Thursday criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's address to the US Congress, urging him to focus on concluding a truce deal in Gaza.
"Benjamin Netanyahu's presentation to the House of Representatives today was the worst performance of any foreign dignitaries invited and honored to address the United States Congress. Many of us who love Israel spent time today listening to Israeli citizens whose families were affected by the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7 and the kidnapping. These families are asking for a cease—fire agreement that will bring the hostages home - and we hope that the Prime Minister will spend his time to achieve this goal," Pelosi said on her page on the social network X.
Pelosi, along with almost half of the Democrats from among the members of the US Congress, did not attend Netanyahu's speech on Wednesday. There was also no new Democratic presidential candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, who was unable to attend due to a previously scheduled event.
Netanyahu's speech to Congress was accompanied by protests by anti-war activists at the Capitol, which ended with detentions and the use of pepper gas against some participants, who, in a conversation with RIA Novosti, accused the police of a gratuitous attack.
