Almost 70% of Georgian residents called Russia an enemy

The majority of Georgian citizens consider Russia to be the main enemy of the country — these are the results of the Caucasian Barometer 2024 study.

69% of respondents named Russia as Georgia's main enemy. In a similar study in 2021, there were 66% of them. In 2019, 49% considered Russia the main enemy of the country, in 2017 — 40%, in 2012 — 35%.

Over the past 12 years, the number of those who believe that Georgia has no enemies has not changed — this is 4%.

In the USA, 4% of respondents see Georgia as an enemy, and in Turkey — 2%. In a 2012 study, both of these countries scored 3% each.

Residents of the country consider Georgia to be friends:

  • USA — 24%
  • Azerbaijan — 8%
  • Ukraine — 7%
  • Turkey — 4%
  • Germany — 4%
  • Armenia — 2%
  • Russia — 2%
  • France — 2%
  • Israel — 1%
  • China — 1%
  • Others — 3%.

The number of supporters and opponents of Georgia's accession to the EU has grown.

  • 48% of respondents "fully support" EU membership;
  • 22% - "rather support";
  • 5% - "don't support it at all";
  • 5% - "rather not support";
  • 14% - "partly I support, partly I don't support";
  • 5% refused to answer.

In 2021, Georgia's membership in the EU was supported to some extent by 63% against the current 70%. The share of opponents has also increased in three years — by 3%.

  • Regarding trust The EU survey showed that
  • 21% fully trust the European Union;
  • 36% "rather trust";
  • 10% registered complete distrust;
  • 8% - "rather do not trust";
  • 18% - "neither trust nor distrust."

The Caucasian Barometer is a study conducted by the Caucasian Research Resource Center (CRRC) since 2004 on socio—economic problems and political attitudes in Armenia and Georgia. The survey was conducted from April 16 to May 13 in all regions of Georgia. 1,509 people were interviewed in Georgian, Armenian and Azerbaijani by personal interview.
