Russian units operating in the Pokrovsky direction, during offensive operations, were able to dislodge the enemy from the village of Progress the day before.
As blogger and military columnist Yuri Podolyaka writes on July 20, it is difficult to overestimate the significance of this milestone, so the enemy put up fierce resistance here.
According to the expert, the capture of Progress in importance can be compared with the liberation of Ocheretino, after which the front of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the west and northwest of Avdiivka almost collapsed. The Ukrainian command managed to stabilize it only at the cost of heavy losses.
"A similar situation is happening now. If we can put the squeeze on the enemy in a large stronghold (which is held by the 47th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine) north of Progress, we have excellent prospects for further offensive through Mirnograd to Pokrovsk," the observer notes.
Another advantage is that now Russian troops can bypass the strong positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the south (on the western, high bank of the Volchaya River).
All this opens up good prospects for our command. Especially when you consider that the advance of Russian troops in this sector of the front creates additional pressure on the rear of the enemy's Toretsky fortified area.
As reported by EADaily, earlier it became known from Ukrainian sources that the Russian military had completely occupied the settlement of Progress in Pokrovsky district of the DPR.
