Almost 40 thousand Russians in Israel cannot receive Russian pensions due to problems with bank transfers. This was stated by the vice-speaker of the Knesset Yevgeny Sova, according to RBC.
He clarified that Russians who issued pensions after 2016 stopped receiving pension payments after the termination of operations between Israeli and Russian banks amid sanctions in 2022.
Those who made transfers directly to accounts in Israel continued to receive payments through a correspondent bank cooperating with Gazprombank. After the imposition of sanctions against the correspondent bank in early 2025, this channel was also closed.
An alternative procedure for obtaining pensions is available to Russians who have made payments after 2017 under the agreement between Russia and Israel on social security through the Israeli National Insurance Service Bituach Leumi. They are paid by the Israeli side.
According to the deputy, the solution of this issue depends on the relations of the states. The Russian Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Israel could allow one of the local banks to conduct operations necessary for pension payments from Russia, or provide him with appropriate guarantees.
As EADaily reported, last summer the Social Fund of the Russian Federation reported that the transfer of pensions is limited by Israel, Lithuania and Bulgaria, to which Russia sent a request. At the same time, pensioners in Latvia and Estonia was transferred pensions previously blocked due to sanctions totaling € 15.4 million.
