General Staff: Deployment of Russian military police in Armenia is legal

Commander of the Armenian Armed Forces General Staff Movses Hakobyan has confirmed lawfulness of deployment of Russian military police in the territory of the Russian military base in Gyumri.

“All the actions were legal. We are to decide, and we shall do it. The public will be informed,” the Armenian commander said asked to comment on the decision to deploy units of the Russian military police in the republic.

As EADaily reported earlier, units of the military police are to be formed in the Russian military base deployed in Armenia, press office of the Southern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces reports. The units will be consisting of officers who were trained at a military police training center in Vladikavkaz. The Southern Military District informs that recruitment will be performed by military psychologists from officers, sergeants and soldiers serving under contract.
