The UN Security Council resolution on Ukraine is the starting point for further efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis peacefully, said Russia's permanent Representative to the organization Vasily Nebenzia.
"We see the adopted text only as a starting point for further efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis peacefully," Nebenzia said during a meeting of the UN Security Council.
"The text adopted now is not perfect, but it is, in fact, the first attempt to adopt a constructive and future—oriented product of the Council, talking about the path to peace, and not inflaming the conflict," he added.
Earlier on Tuesday, the UN Security Council approved the resolution proposed by the United States on the Ukrainian settlement. The members of the UN Security Council document "express sorrow over the tragic loss of life during the conflict between the Russian Federation and Ukraine"; declare that the main goal of the UN "is to maintain international peace and security and the peaceful settlement of disputes"; "earnestly ask" to immediately end the conflict and "urge" to "establish lasting peace between Ukraine and the Russian Federation."
At the same time, in the UN General Assembly, a similar American document was approved with anti-Russian amendments that distorted the original neutral color of the resolution. Nebenzia called the accepted The GA resolution is an "anti-Russian piece of paper."
The resolutions of the UN Security Council, unlike the resolutions of the General Assembly, have legally binding force.
