Russian President Vladimir Putin has asked members of the newly elected Russian State Duma (the lower house of the Russian parliament) to appoint Vyacheslav Volodin to the post of the Duma chairman.
Putin stressed that the MPs are to decide themselves whom to appoint. At the same time, the Russian president said that Volodin has experience in managing activities of a legislative body.
The parliamentary elections were held in Russia on September 18. According to the data of the Central Election Commission, the United Russia party received most of the votes - 54.20% of the eligible voters supported it at the elections.
