Foreign ministers of the Normandy Quartet have agreed in Berlin to assist in the withdrawal of heavy weapons from the line of contact in Ukraine, Foreign Minster Sergey Lavrov said today, on January 22.
“The most important decision that was adopted today (it was reflected in a joint statement that was approved at today’s meeting) was to provide vigorous support to immediate withdrawal of heavy weapons from the line of contact as agreed in Minsk, in particular, in the Minsk Memorandum, on September 19,” Lavrov said.
“This is exactly what President Vladimir Putin suggested to President Petro Poroshenko in his January 15 message. We hope the support to this initiative by the Normandy Quartet foreign ministers will help implement it,” he said.
