Russia does not intend to support calls for a nuclear-free status of the Korean Peninsula, as they have become an instrument of pressure on The Democratic People's Republic of Korea. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov today, July 22, following the results of the Russia—ASEAN ministerial meeting.
"At a time when quite aggressive games are unfolding around the DPRK with a frank bias towards deterring the DPRK, or even provoking military action, we no longer join the calls for the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula," Lavrov said.
As EADaily reported, two days ago, North Korean Foreign Minister Choi Song-hee visited Moscow, following which a joint Russian-North Korean statement followed. It says that the reason for the degradation of the international situation, including the situation around Korea, is the irresponsible behavior of the United States and its allies.
