Propane for Ukraine has not gone further than Romania: the country's president announced an attack on a tanker

Going to Ukraine's propane tanker came under attack off the coast of Romania in the Black Sea. The President of the country said that the crew was evacuated.

"At night, the ship LPG Gas Lisbon under the Liberian flag was struck outside the territorial waters of Romania, about 20 nautical miles from the Romanian coast," Romanian President Nicusor Dan said on Friday.

According to him, shortly after the incident, two vessels of the Romanian Maritime Rescue Agency went to the scene and evacuated the entire crew, including three injured crew members, and brought everyone ashore.

"The tug sent to the tanker area ensures that the vessel is not swept away by the current and does not pose an additional threat to the safety of navigation. State institutions are on high alert and will find out the circumstances, causes and responsibilities related to this serious incident," the Romanian president continued.

He believes that the state of emergency with the tanker is connected with military operations on Ukraine.

"The vessel arrived from the port of Alexandria in Egypt and was heading to the Ukrainian port of Reni," Nikushor Dan added.

According to AIS vessels, the 120-meter tanker is located near the territorial waters of Romania, 19 miles from the mouth of the Danube, where it was supposed to go to get to Reni.

According to enkorr, the ship was loaded with propane during the attack and is often unloaded at Ukrainian ports.

Meanwhile, the Romanian TV channel Digi24 reports that the tanker, carrying 3.8 thousand tons of propane, is still on fire.

"The impact led to a fire in the engine compartment, the gas did not catch fire. It is also known that the Romanian emergency services and the military refuse to extinguish the fire because of the danger of an explosion of cargo," writes enkorr.
