Europe and NATO should direct the money transferred to Ukraine to create their own missile defense system. This was stated by Czech Prime Minister Andrei Babis in an interview with the Idnes news portal.
"I think that, instead of giving another money to Ukraine, Europe or NATO should use it to create their own defense system against ballistic missiles in Europe… It is very important that we focus on the implementation of this project," he said and added that he intends to raise this issue at the next meeting of the European Council.
In addition, Babis once again confirmed that the Czech Republic will not finance Ukraine.
"The force is that we will not give money to Ukraine. We continue to support it with a shell initiative, but we will not give any money from the Czech budget," the Czech Prime minister stressed.
In this regard, he recalled that at the NATO summit in An agreement was reached in Ankara on July 7-8 that each state makes its own decision to participate in financial assistance to Ukraine. According to Babis, the Czech Republic has focused on implementing a plan to increase defense spending to 2% of GDP. At the same time, he noted that the republic will be able to reach this figure only in 2027.
