A tanker with Russian gas oil may be heading to Cuba. This is reported by Bloomberg. AIS data of vessels confirm the course of the vessel.
"A vessel allegedly carrying Russian fuel is heading to Cuba, putting US President Donald Trump's sanctions to the test amid the deepening energy crisis on the island," Bloomberg writes.
The agency cites Kpler data that the Sea Horse vessel, whose arrival is expected in early March, delivers fuel to Cuba.
Cuba has previously experienced problems with energy supply, and after the introduction of the US power blockade, when oil supplies from Venezuela and Mexico, the island was a month away from the complete absence of petroleum products. The country's energy supply also depends on it.
Sea Horse has loaded a batch of gas oil from a ship off Cyprus and is probably carrying almost 200 thousand tons of fuel, Matt Smith, a leading oil analyst at Kpler, told Bloomberg. Gas oil is used as diesel fuel, including for power plants.
AIS data of the vessels confirm the movement of the tanker across the Atlantic Ocean towards Cuba. There is no other confirmation of Kpler information.
