British singer Bonnie Tyler, known all over the world for her husky voice and ballads, has died at the age of 75. This is stated on the star's page on social networks.
"Bonnie's family and team are deeply saddened to announce that Bonnie passed away unexpectedly last night at the hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness from which she was being treated, " the report says.
The singer's team does not disclose the details of the disease and the cause of death.
"Soon we will publish an additional statement, but for now we ask for confidentiality in connection with this tragedy," the artist's colleagues addressed the fans.
As reported by EADaily, in May of this year, Tyler was admitted to the hospital in Faro (Portugal) with a serious infection that caused intestinal perforation. During the operation, the perforation was eliminated, but it was not possible to cope with the infection. Doctors decided to immerse the singer in a medically induced coma.
In mid-June, the singer regained consciousness. However, her representative stated that Tyler's condition is still very serious, and the recovery process is slow.
Bonnie Tyler (nee Gaynor Hopkins) was born on June 8, 1951 in Wales. The singer has worked in various genres — pop, country, rock, as well as in a related style. In 1977, she released her first single, Lost in France. Her country-pop ballad It's a Heartache, released the same year, reached number four on the UK Singles chart and number three on the US Billboard Hot 100.
Six years later — in 1983 — Tyler's biggest hit Total Eclipse of the Heart was released, which topped the charts in both the UK and the USA.
For this hit, she received a Grammy Award nomination, as well as two more nominations for the album Faster Than the Speed of Night and the single Here She Comes.
Tyler represented the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013, taking 19th place out of 26 participants, and was awarded the Order of the British Empire for Services to Music in 2023.
In 2026, the original version of Total Eclipse of the Heart, 43 years after its release, surpassed the billion listening mark on Spotify.
"I'm really happy, if you think about it, there are only 8.3 billion people in the world," rejoiced Bonnie Tyler.
