The likely successor of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Andy Burnham, promises to continue to support Kiev, as well as maintain the country's commitment to NATO membership and increase armaments.

The current Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced his resignation in June after the failure of the Labor Party in the local elections. The most likely successor is MP Andy Burnham. It is expected that the transfer of power will take place before the end of July.

"Our commitment to NATO and the British nuclear deterrent capability will remain absolute. Our relationship with the United States as our most important defense and security ally will remain crucial. British support for Ukraine will not falter," Burnham wrote in his article for the Times newspaper, in which he described the main directions of his future policy.

Burnham argues that in response to the threats facing the UK, it is right and necessary to increase investments in defense. In addition, the politician said that he would focus on reducing the country's dependence on foreign countries. As another direction of his policy, Burnham highlighted plans to strengthen cooperation with European states.

Earlier, the former Deputy Minister of Defense of the United Kingdom and Burnham's last rival, Alistair Carnes, said he supported him as a candidate for the post of leader of the ruling Labor Party.

The ruling Labour Party in the UK on Thursday will begin the procedure for changing the Starmer amid low ratings and after the failure of the local elections. If someone besides Burnham nominates his candidacy, the process will be completed only by August 29.
