A referendum has started in Slovakia, during which citizens of the country are invited to answer several questions related to changes in the state structure.
This was reported on Saturday, July 4 by RIA Novosti, referring to the Slovak Ministry of Internal Affairs. They recalled that one of the topics of the plebiscite is the issue of depriving Prime Minister Robert Fico of lifetime payments.
In general, citizens will have to answer two questions: "Do you agree with the abolition of the so-called life annuity, for example, for Robert Fico?" and "Do you agree with the restoration of the special prosecutor's office and the national crime agency?".
The Interior Ministry informed that polling stations will be open from 07.00 (08.00 Moscow time) to 22.00 (23.00 Moscow time). The referendum will be considered valid if the turnout exceeds 50 percent.
The vote was initiated by the Democrats party. They do not agree with the current law, which provides for a lifetime payment to former prime ministers who have held this post for at least two terms.
Currently, only Robert Fico, who became the head of the Slovak government for the third time, meets this criterion.
Earlier, EADaily reported that the referendum has little chance of being recognized as having taken place. According to the results of a survey by the Ipsos sociological agency, only 26.5% of voters plan to take part in the vote.
