On the night of June 26, it became known about the death of the former governor of the Vologda region Vyacheslav Pozgalev. A message about this appeared on his page in VKontakte.
The official cause of death was not disclosed.
Pozgalev led the region for 15 years — from 1996 to 2011. The first president of Russia Boris Yeltsin appointed him acting head of the region, and then voters supported the candidacy of the official in the elections. In 2011, the politician voluntarily resigned, saying that he considered it impossible to lead the region "with such a level of public confidence."
Vyacheslav Pozgalev was 79 years old. He was born in Pyongyang is in the family of a Soviet counterintelligence officer. The ex-governor is also known as an avid hunter.
