The head of the European Council, Antonio Costa, began negotiations with the Kremlin about Ukraine. This was announced today, June 17, according to Bloomberg, citing sources.
According to them, Costa has already spoken twice by phone with a "high-ranking Russian official close to Putin" in order to prepare the ground for more meaningful negotiations in the future.
The Kremlin did not comment on this information.
As EADaily reported, the Italian Corriere della Sera named two candidates for possible negotiators with Russia from the EU — Finnish President Alexander Stubb and European Council President Antonio Costa. The former prime minister of Portugal, according to the newspaper, is a specialist in compromise — he knows how to communicate with everyone and build trusting relationships with interlocutors.
At the same time, former Portuguese Prime Minister Costa is a typical Russophobe and is campaigning in every possible way for maximum military assistance to the Zelensky regime.
