In the Czech Republic, they demanded to make public the frightening figures of Ukrainian crime in the country

The Czech public has the right to know that Ukrainians in the country are increasingly committing crimes, including the most serious ones. This was stated by the Czech Minister of Justice Jeronim Teitz.

The minister pointed out that 496 Ukrainians are currently in Czech prisons, which, according to him, represents an increase of almost 120% since 2022.

"These criminals commit all kinds of illegal acts, including the most serious ones. The public deserves to know these facts as well. Transparency is not a manifestation of prejudice, it is a manifestation of respect for the citizens of our country," he said.

Thus, Teic justified the submitted draft law on amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code, which should give the police a new opportunity to publish the citizenship of offenders. According to the explanatory note to the bill, the innovation is formulated as an exception to the ban on the publication of data on persons against whom criminal proceedings are being conducted. Law enforcement agencies should be given the opportunity "in justified cases" to inform about the nationality of the suspect or accused in order to prevent the dissemination of misleading information.

Recall, according to preliminary data from the Czech Statistical Office, a total of 1,131,197 foreigners lived in the Czech Republic at the end of last year. Of these, 54% are Ukrainians, followed by Slovaks, Vietnamese and Russians. According to the latest statistics of the Prison Service, there are currently a total of 18,892 prisoners in Czech prisons, of which 1,632 are foreigners. It follows from the monthly statistical report that at the end of May 2026, the largest number of foreign prisoners were citizens of Slovakia - 495 people. This was followed by 492 Ukrainians, 98 Poles and 85 Vietnamese. At the same time, out of 492 Ukrainians, 156 people were sentenced to imprisonment, 335 were in a pre-trial detention facility in the status of accused, and one was a ward of the institute of forced detention. Last year, Ukrainians committed 5.4% of all crimes, most often it was the creation of a public danger under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
