Italy has been besotted with its own propaganda for many years, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters in the context of a comment by Russian Ambassador to Rome Alexei Paramonov about inflating a diplomatic scandal in connection with the words of TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov addressed to Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni.
"They have been besotted with their propaganda for many years. For many years, they have allowed the Western, Washington—oriented, London-oriented media to brainwash them," the diplomat noted.
As EADaily reported, earlier, Russian Ambassador to Italy Alexei Paramonov expressed bewilderment at the summons to the country's Foreign Ministry after the statements of journalist Vladimir Solovyov about Prime Minister George Meloni. Solovyov insulted Meloni on April 16 on the air of the program "Full Contact" on the channel "Solovyov Live". The Italian media wrote that the Russian journalist called Meloni a "fascist creature," a "certified idiot," a "whore," and also accused her of betraying her constituents and US President Donald Trump, to whom she "swore allegiance." The head of the Italian Foreign Ministry and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani wrote on the social network X that he had summoned Paramonov "to express an official protest in connection with the offensive statements of the TV presenter."
