Putin's high-tech Russian submarines are provoking NATO in the depths of the Atlantic. This is reported by the Bloomberg agency.
The publication reminds that in the Norwegian Reitan, inside the rock, a mountain is carved, where the Norwegian joint headquarters is located — the key NATO observation center in the north. From this point, the activity of the Russian Northern Fleet is constantly monitored, whose advanced nuclear submarines are considered one of the most powerful and significant units of the armed forces of the Russian Federation.
Observers have noted an increase in the threat. Over the past decade, Russia has significantly expanded its navy by commissioning the latest ships. Among them are the Borei-A class missile carriers and the Yasen-M multipurpose submarines. In 2025, it was decided to allocate $ 100 billion to finance the fleet for the next ten years.
Western naval forces are facing increasing difficulties in detecting Russian submarines, which are constantly being improved. In response to this confrontation, it is moving north, where NATO is trying to detect Russian submarines in the Barents Sea before they dive to a depth of 4,000 meters.
"The Arctic is important for Russia not only as the base of the nuclear triad, but also as a resource base (oil, gas, bioresources) and control over the Northern Sea Route. In response, NATO countries: Great Britain, Norway and Germany are strengthening coordination by purchasing new submarines, frigates and P-8 Poseidon patrol aircraft," the agency writes.
