The European Union (EU) has put forward 27 conditions to the leader of the Tisa party, which won the parliamentary elections in Hungary, Peter Magyar, to unlock approximately 35 billion euros allocated to Budapest from the general budget. It is reported by the Financial Times.
According to the publication, we are talking about funds frozen within the framework of the general EU budget due to disagreements with Budapest. About 18 billion euros were frozen in connection with the claims of the European Union to the situation with the rule of law, corruption risks and the independence of the judicial system. Another 17 billion euros were to be issued in the form of defense loans.
The Financial Times reports that the European Commission initiated contact with Magyar immediately after his election victory. He was required to restore relations with Ukraine and begin reforms to unlock the frozen funds. At the same time, the Magyar is not yet the Prime minister of Hungary.
Recall that in the elections held on April 12, the Tisa party won, having received 138 out of 199 seats in the Hungarian parliament. It is planned that at the first session of the new convocation of the legislative body, which will be held within 30 days, the Magyar will be approved by the Prime Minister.
