Not only the Indian authorities appealed to the United States to extend the exemptions from sanctions for Russian oil, which ended on April 11.
"The Philippines turned to The United States with a request to extend the permit for the purchase of Russian oil and petroleum products,"Reuters reports with reference to the country's Energy Minister Sharon Garin.
"We are waiting for their response, but we are very optimistic about getting this new opportunity," the minister said.
After stopping the export of oil and gas from The Gulf Philippines is looking for new suppliers. The government is also considering producers in South America, including Colombia and Argentina, as well as Canada and the United States.
"We wanted to open the Russian window because we want more options. We need diversification," Sharon Garin said.
"We just need to provide the State Department and the U.S. Treasury Department with information on the number and timing," Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez told Reuters.
As EADaily reported, in order to curb the rise in oil prices due to the Iranian war, the United States granted exemptions from sanctions against Russian oil, purchases of which were immediately increased by Indian refineries. At the same time, on April 11, the license ended and there are no official reports of an extension.
