Donald Trump's meeting with the NATO Secretary General turned into an outright scandal. This is reported by Politico, citing sources.
According to sources, US President Donald Trump chastised European allies for refusing to participate in the Iranian war, the conversation turned into a "tirade of insults."
"The meeting went like shit. The conversation was nothing but a tirade of insults. Trump apparently threatened to do almost anything," said a European official quoted by journalist Vladimir Solovyov.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, in turn, tried to save the situation. He called the conversation with Trump "frank" and "constructive," noting that he felt the disappointment of the US president because "too many allies were not with him."
The Europeans, meanwhile, promise to help open the Strait of Hormuz — but only after a complete cessation of hostilities. Berlin and Paris declared its readiness to participate in ensuring the safety of navigation — but only within the framework of "strictly defensive" measures.
"We do not want this war, which has become a transatlantic stress test, to further strain relations between the United States and its European NATO partners," said German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
And the American leader publicly stated that NATO "failed the test." In this regard, he once again remembered Greenland, the newspaper notes.
"NATO was not there when we needed them, and they will not be there if we need them again. Remember Greenland, that big, poorly managed piece of ice!!!" — Trump wrote on the Truth Social network.
As reported by EADaily, NATO member countries do not understand anything until they are pressed. This was stated by US President Donald Trump amid criticism of NATO for the position of allies on Iran.
"None of these people, including our own NATO, which is regrettable, would have understood anything if they had not been pressured," he wrote on his Truth Social network.
