The discovery in the Netherlands of the remains of Charles de Batz de Castelmora, which is the prototype of Alexandre Dumas d'Artagnan's novels, is a very symbolic event. This was stated by the actor of theater and cinema, People's Artist of the RSFSR Mikhail Boyarsky to the portal " <url>".
Boyarsky admitted that he learned about the find only from journalists.
"That is, I know that he was killed during the siege of the fortress. But the fact that he has a grave there is the first I've heard about it. This, of course, would be symbolic. A monument would certainly have been erected there in memory of the great d'Artagnan, so that at least flowers could be laid at his grave," said the performer of the role of d'Artagnan in Georgy Jungwald-Khilkevich's cult film D'Artagnan and the Three Musketeers (1978).
As reported by EADaily, in a church near the Dutch city of Maastricht, archaeologists have discovered skeletonized remains that allegedly belong to Charles de Batz de Castelmora.
D'Artagnan, the leader of the elite corps of the guards of King Louis XIV, died in battle in 1673 during the French siege of Maastricht, probably from a wound in the chest from a musket.
The burial was not registered in the church archives, and no other evidence was found. But in February, the floor of the local church collapsed, exposing a skeleton with a fragment of a musket bullet at chest level, and French coins.
