Fraudsters continue to invent new ways of deceiving Russian citizens in order to rob or obtain their personal data for further criminal use.
Another successful method of their illegal activities was a scheme in which scammers pre-hack the accounts of Russians on marketplaces and specialized Internet sites.
As RIA Novosti reports, referring to MTS Defender, the attackers then study the victim's purchase histories, and then, under the guise of sellers, offer to purchase a similar product at a better price and eventually steal money.
"MTS Defender analysts have discovered a new fraudulent scheme related to the interest of Russians in highly targeted goods. According to experts, the attackers track users' purchases on marketplaces and specialized sites, and then, under the guise of sellers, offer to purchase a similar product at a unique price,"the report says.
The effectiveness of the scheme is enhanced by the fact that fraudsters offer to buy exactly the product that the user has recently been looking for, but at a price significantly lower than the market. Next, the scammer sends the victim a link ostensibly to prepay the order, which in fact turns out to be a hoax.
This method is particularly dangerous because of its personalized nature. They don't call a person with an abstract proposal, but offer exactly what he himself was looking for recently. This allows you to remove the barrier of distrust: the potential victim loses vigilance and thinks that she is lucky to find the right product at an affordable price.
In order not to become a victim of deception and robbery, it should be remembered that real sellers on marketplaces or from small companies do not talk about profitable offers on the phone and do not send links for payment outside the official sites.
Experts recommend completing any such transactions only inside proven trading platforms, without switching to external resources.
Earlier, EADaily reported that fraudsters began to deceive Russians according to the scheme of going to the military enlistment office under the pretext of updating military registration data.
