Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was sympathetic to the position of her Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orban, who blocked the allocation of € 90 billion for the Kiev regime.
According to Politico, citing its own sources, Meloni expressed her opinion on this issue at the EU summit in Brussels.
She stated that she understands the reasons for Orban's veto, despite the fact that she herself supports the allocation of money to Kiev. The Italian prime minister called the position of the Hungarian side "normal".
"Meloni told her European colleagues that she understands the reasons why the Hungarian leader angered the entire bloc by refusing to support the allocation of a euro loan of 90 billion euros to finance Ukraine," the article says.
It is also reported that the Italian Prime Minister admitted that if she were in the same position as Orban, she would act similarly.
At the same time, the agency noted that official representatives of the Italian government have already denied the fact that the prime minister made such a statement.
Recall that Hungary and Slovakia is demanding that Kiev resume the transit of Russian oil via Druzhba, which was interrupted on January 27. As a pressure measure, both countries refuse to approve the loan until this condition is met.
Meanwhile, the EU mission to assess the condition of the damaged section of the Druzhba oil pipeline in Ukraine has failed. A team of engineers from the EU was forced to wait in Kiev for permission to visit the facility.
As reported by EADaily, despite this, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, expressed confidence that the EU loan to Ukraine of 90 billion euros for 2026-2027, blocked by Hungary, will definitely be fulfilled.
