It was a lie: The head of the US counterterrorism center resigned because of Iran

The head of the US National Antiterrorist Center, Joseph Kent, resigned because of the war with Iran. He stated this in the social network X, according to the British The Guardian.

The reason for the resignation was that, according to Kent, Iran did not pose an immediate threat to the United States.

"After much thought, I have decided to resign from the post of director of the National Center for Combating Terrorism starting today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no immediate threat to our country, and it is obvious that we started this war under pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby," the official said in a statement.

He noted that he supports the values and foreign policy that US President Donald Trump adhered to in 2016, 2020 and 2024, but in 2025 everything changed.

"Until June 2025, you understood that the wars in the Middle East were a trap that deprived America of the precious lives of our patriots and drained the wealth and prosperity of our nation... At the beginning of this administration, senior Israeli officials and influential representatives of the American media launched a disinformation campaign that completely undermined your America First platform and sowed pro-war the mood is to encourage war with Iran. This was used to make you believe that Iran poses an imminent threat to the United States and that if you strike now, there will be a clear path to a quick victory. It was a lie and exactly the same tactic that the Israelis used to drag us into a catastrophic war in Iraq, which cost our country the lives of thousands of our best men and women. We cannot repeat this mistake," Kent explained.

He noted that he could not support sending the next generation of Americans to fight and die in a war "that does not benefit the American people and does not justify the price of American lives."

"I pray that you think about what we are doing in Iran and for whom we are doing it. The time for bold action is now. You can change course and pave a new path for our country, or let us slide even further into decline and chaos. You hold the cards," he added.

Kent, a former employee of the Green Berets and a CIA agent, was confirmed in office in July last year, the British newspaper writes. In one of the wars unleashed by the USA, he lost his beloved wife.
