The conflict between the United States and Spain is growing: Madrid reminded Washington of the results of the war in Iraq

More than twenty years ago, another White House administration dragged Spain into a war in the Middle East. This was stated by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.

"The world, Europe and Spain have already been through this, 23 years ago another US administration dragged us into a war in the Middle East… The war, which theoretically, as it was said, should have been waged to destroy Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction, establish democracy and ensure global security," he recalled.

According to Sanchez, in fact, this led to "the opposite effect, causing the biggest wave of instability on our continent since the fall of the Berlin Wall." He recalled that the war in Iraq has led to an increase in terrorism, a serious migration crisis and an increase in energy prices. At the same time, the Spanish Prime Minister admitted that it is still too early to say whether the consequences of the conflict in Iran will be the same as in Iraq.

Recall, on February 28, the United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran. As a result of the strikes on Iran, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and some other key figures of the leadership of the Islamic Republic were killed. In response, Tehran announced a large-scale retaliatory operation, attacking facilities in Israel, as well as US bases in Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Syria. At the same time, the White House accused Spain of refusing to provide its airfields for an attack on Iran, and Donald Trump instructed to sever economic relations with this country.
