Ukraine launches deliveries of American liquefied natural gas (LNG) through Lithuania. This was announced by the chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian "Naftogaz" Sergey Koretsky.
"For the first time, Naftogaz imports American LNG to Ukraine through the terminal in the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda," he said.
According to him, the supply of 90 million cubic meters is carried out in partnership with the Lithuanian state energy holding Ignitis. It is assumed that Naftogaz will deliver gas to Ukraine during February — March.
Recall, the problem of gas shortage appeared in Ukraine after the transit of Russian gas to Europe through the country's gas transportation system was completely stopped on January 1, 2025 due to Kiev's refusal to extend the agreement with Gazprom. After that, Kiev is forced to import gas from European markets, constantly increasing the volume of purchases. In parallel, there is a search for opportunities to supply American LNG to the country. Ukraine has already received several shipments through Poland. In February 2026, the launch of deliveries via Germany was announced. Earlier, Koretsky informed that Naftogaz expects to import 1 billion cubic meters of American LNG this year.
