On Lake Baikal, a UAZ with tourists from China, one escaped, the bodies of seven victims were found using an underwater camera. This was announced today, February 20, by the governor of the region Igor Kobzev.
The tragedy happened in the area of Cape Khoboy. The car got into an ice fault three meters wide and quickly sank to the bottom. The depth at the scene is 18 meters. At the moment, 5 people have been identified, the driver is a 44—year-old local resident and 4 tourists (1 survivor).: a family from China, whose data is stored in the hotel database: a married couple, their 14-year-old child and another relative. All of them arrived as independent tourists.
"We are in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Irkutsk. I offer my condolences to the relatives of the victims. And once again I want to remind you that access to the ice of Lake Baikal is not just prohibited now. This is a mortal danger," Kobzev writes.
Pictures from the scene have already appeared on social networks, one of them shows a "loaf" at a depth of about 20 meters. Judging by the light, divers are working there.
