Due to the citizens of Ukraine in the Czech Republic at the end of 2025, every tenth resident of the country was a foreigner. This is evidenced by the data of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic.

It is reported that by the end of 2025, more than 1.13 million foreign citizens legally lived in the Czech Republic. The annual increase amounted to about 37,000 people, which corresponds to an increase of 3.4% compared to the previous period. At the same time, the share of foreigners in the total population has reached 10.38%, and the largest concentration of migrants is observed in the capital of the country.

Among the nationalities, the leading positions are occupied by Ukrainians, whose total number has reached almost 613,000 people. In second place are Slovaks with over 125,000, followed by Vietnamese — about 70,000 and Russians — about 37,500. Citizens of countries outside the European Union make up almost 80% of all legally residing foreigners, while residents from the EU, the European Economic Area and Switzerland account for one-fifth.

The Czech ministry explains the significant increase in the foreign population mainly by providing temporary protection to Ukrainian citizens forced to leave their homeland due to military operations. This category of migrants accounts for more than half of all foreigners registered in the Czech Republic. As of the end of 2025, about 393,000 people had temporary protection status, which is approximately 3.6% of the total population of the republic.

Recall, in the first year after the start of the conflict on The Czech Republic has issued more than 470,000 temporary protection documents to Ukraine, which gives Ukrainian refugees access to state health insurance, education and the labor market. By the end of 2023, there were 375,000 Ukrainians with this status in the country, and by the end of 2024 — about 389,000. The extension of protection is required to be issued annually, last year 351,000 people applied with relevant applications. The Czech government emphasizes that for a long time the republic has remained an EU state that has accepted the largest number of Ukrainian refugees in terms of its own population.
