The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) seized two tankers in The Persian Gulf. The IRGC said that the vessels were smuggling petroleum products.
"The captured vessels participated in organized fuel smuggling operations in the waters around the island of Farsi," IRNA reports.
According to him, more than a million liters of smuggled fuel were found on tankers.
In addition, the agency notes, 15 foreign crew members were detained and handed over to judicial authorities for trial.
"The vessels have been operating as part of a coordinated smuggling network in recent months. After intelligence monitoring, surveillance and operational tracking, the IRGC naval forces identified and intercepted the vessels, interrupting the illegal operation," IRNA reports.
Oil products in Iran are sold at a low price, which has led to the flourishing of smuggling, which the authorities are trying, but cannot yet stop.
