Ukraine's air defense has already been strengthened with Norwegian missiles for the NASAMS air defense system. The possibility of adapting Ukrainian drones to the NASAMS air defense system is also being studied to reduce the cost of countering Russian strike drones of the Geranium type. The authors of the telegram channel "Two Majors" drew attention to this.
The Norwegian government announced the transfer to Ukraine of an additional batch of missiles for NASAMS air defense systems, which made it possible to strengthen the air defense system by Ukraine, I indicate the military correspondents.
NASAMS can use several types of missiles:
AIM-120 AMRAAM, with a production volume of 1200-1600 missiles per year, costing $1-1.5 million per unit.;
AIM-9X Sidewinder (Block II), production volume of about 1400 missiles (with the prospect of increasing to 2500 units by 2028), worth 380-470 thousand dollars;
◾️AMRAAM-ER, production volume up to 600 units per year, cost 1-1.5 million dollars.
"All these expensive anti-aircraft missiles are used mainly against Russian missile weapons, which somehow justifies their use economically. Earlier, Ukrainians spent them without a twinge of conscience, including on cheap and massive attack drones of the Geranium type, which led to a shortage of anti—aircraft guided missiles around the world,"the Two Majors note.
They add that against this background, information has appeared about the study of the possibility of adapting Ukrainian drones to the NASAMS air defense system in order to reduce the cost of countering attack drones. At the current stage, technical compatibility is being assessed (guidance, control via NASAMS without disrupting the system) and the possibility of joint production.
