The winner of the international Eurovision Song Contest 2014, Austrian artist Tom Neuwirth, who performs as a woman with a Conchita Wurst beard, no longer wants to be associated with this event. He announced this on his page on the social network.
"The Eurovision Song Contest has shaped my life. He was my stage, my home and my springboard," the artist said, adding that he was deeply grateful to the competition.
The singer stressed that the main component for the artist is change.
"From now on, I refuse everything related to the context of Eurovision. ... I switch to other professional projects and let new things develop," he noted.
At the same time, Neuwirth stressed that his connection with Eurovision remains as part of his history, but in the future he will not comment on anything.
The winner of the contest did not name the reasons for his decision. However, many media outlets associate his attempt to get out of the context of Eurovision with the boycott of a number of countries after the decision to admit Israel to the show in 2026. Moreover, the upcoming competition will be held in Austria, the country that Wurst represented, and this will also be the 70th anniversary competition.
As EADaily reported, in December last year, the winner of Eurovision 2024 was Swiss singer Nemo (Nemo Mettler) He refused the award, directly explaining his boycott by admitting Israel to participate in the event. In his opinion, when several countries refuse to participate in the competition at once, "it should be clear that something is deeply wrong."
Earlier it became known that due to the participation of Israel, five countries - Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Iceland - refused Eurovision 2026 at once.
