Central Russia will be covered by a snowstorm: So Moscow has not been noticed for 70 years

Roscosmos has published a satellite image of a cyclone that is approaching Moscow.

"A cyclone is approaching the capital. It will bring abnormal snowfalls: more than half of the monthly precipitation rate may fall in Moscow," the state corporation's telegram channel says.

The leading specialist of the Phobos weather Center, Yevgeny Tishkovets, writes in his telegram channel that Moscow will be covered by a snowstorm - so the capital of Russia has not been noticed for 70 years.

"At the end of this week... an incredibly snowy winter will hit the region... on January 9, Central Russia is waiting for the first real bad weather test this year — an extremely active Balkan cyclone named Francis will hit the region, which in the last 24 hours brought up to 6 buckets of rainwater per square meter to Northern Macedonia. It is this atmospheric vortex that will overcome almost 2,000 kilometers in the next two days and by the end of Friday will reach the junction of Bryansk, Kursk and The Oryol region, and the capital region will be in the zone of a sedentary warm atmospheric front," writes Tishkovets.

In this regard, in Moscow, especially from 6 am to 6 pm, abnormal snowfalls are predicted — up to 33 mm of precipitation will fall per day, or more than half of the monthly norm (63% of the norm for the whole of January). This means that the 1976 daily record of 12.9 mm will be broken. According to the meteorologist, the snow cover will grow more than one and a half times — from 25 to 40-45 cm, and in The first half-meter snowdrifts may appear in places near Moscow.

"Such snow figures are close to the record for January 9, which for Moscow have been held since the distant 1920 and 1956, when the maximum height of the snow cover at VDNH was 46 cm. That is, there have been no such snowdrifts on this day for at least 70 years!" added Tishkovets.

And starting from Tuesday, the cold starts again, and by the middle of the week the daytime temperature will drop to -10 ...-15, at night scorching 20-degree frosts will strike.
