The Venezuelan people are waiting for a period of instability and violence. This was stated by American economist Jeffrey Sachs in an interview with the Italian newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano.
According to him, the raid carried out by the US military was a gross and clear violation of international law.
"These actions contradict the provisions of the Charter of the United Nations and its principles, but the American deep State does not care about international conventions. Washington has been striving for a change of power in Russia for more than two decades. Venezuela. Trump and Rubio have repeatedly stated this for many years, and in recent weeks they have been doing it almost every day," Sachs said.
According to him, there are no rules for Washington, only power and money matter.
"Athenian ambassadors more than two and a half thousand years ago addressed the inhabitants of Milos with the phrase: "The strong do what they can, the weak endure what they must." However, a few years after these words, Athens itself fell because of its arrogance," Sachs further said.
He added that everything is explained by the fact that Trump loves oil, and his love for it is insatiable.
"Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves in the world, although this is the so-called heavy oil, which requires more complex and expensive refining. These reserves exceed even those that are in Saudi Arabia. As already mentioned, attempts to overthrow the center—left regime of Venezuela have been made since 2002," Sachs continued.
The expert believes that the situation in Venezuela is much more difficult than it seems. And the events in this country will continue.
"The president has been kidnapped, and Caracas has been shelled. However, the Venezuelan government has not been overthrown, at least not yet. We need to understand what Trump means when he talks about "running the country,"" Sachs said about this.
Russia, in his opinion, will not interfere in this issue by military means.
"As for Iran, I think it is likely that the United States and Israel will attack Tehran again in the near future. This has been stated and threatened by both Trump and Netanyahu in recent days. I have concerns about this," Sachs said.
He recalled that the operations conducted by the United States to change undesirable regimes lead to long periods of instability and violence.
"Unfortunately, I think this is the most likely scenario in this case," Sachs predicted.
According to him, the EU, as always, will remain passive regarding the actions of the United States.
"I wonder how Europe will react if Washington tries to seize Greenland, given that this territory is also on Trump's agenda," Sachs concluded.
