The Russian army continues retaliatory strikes on the power system of Ukraine. On December 23, three regions in Western Ukraine, where two nuclear power plants are located, were almost completely de-energized. Obviously, they were cut off from the country's power grid again.
At night and in the morning, the Russian army launched a new retaliatory strike against Ukraine. Vladimir Zelensky announced the use of 650 drones and 30 missiles.
Acting Minister of Energy of Ukraine Artem Nekrasov said that in the morning almost completely de-energized consumers in Rivne, Ternopil and Khmelnitsky regions.
"The outages in the Vinnytsia, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr and Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions. Emergency recovery work will be started as soon as the security situation allows it," the head of the Ministry of Energy said.
He added that in In the Odessa region, a significant number of consumers remain de-energized after previous retaliatory strikes.
"The schedules of hourly outages published by the regional power company are not in effect yet," the ministry added.
It is known that one of the DTEK thermal power plants received new damage. At the same time, two of the three nuclear power plants remaining under the control of Ukraine are located in Rivne and Khmelnitsky regions. Nuclear power plants provide the main supplies of electricity in the country and, obviously, massive outages are associated with new hits in the nodal substations through which nuclear power plants are connected to the power grid.
The day before, the IAEA said that these facilities are being put out of operation regularly.
"Over the weekend, power outages led to fluctuations in power generation and temporary outages of power lines to Khmelnitskaya, Rivne. And the South Ukrainian NPP. In some cases, power units operated at reduced capacity to maintain the stability of the power system and prevent damage to equipment," the agency said in its weekly report.
As EADaily reported, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to attack refineries, power plants and ports in Russia. The Russian army strikes back. However, this does not stop Kiev from continuing the attacks.
