French law enforcement authorities seized 90 thousand euros, three kilograms of gold, 18 watches of elite stamps worth more than one million euros during a search of the villa of the former Prosecutor General of Ukraine Svyatoslav Piskun.
According to the Ukrainian edition of the Mirror of the Week, citing sources, Piskun himself could not clearly explain the origin of the currency and provide bank documents for the purchase of gold bars.
He also did not have any customs documents confirming the legality of the importation of expensive watches into France. This became the basis for the detention of the ex-prosecutor by the French police.
Sources of the publication informed that at the moment Piskun has already been released, but the investigation continues. A criminal case has been opened on the legalization of funds obtained by criminal means. The issue of bringing an official charge against the person involved is being resolved.
Earlier, EADaily reported that Piskun was detained after conducting searches at his home in France. According to investigators, the former prosecutor could have received a bribe in order to close the 2003 case of the murder of a lawyer, the likely customer of which was the Ukrainian oligarch Igor Kolomoisky*.
